This area is the very heart of Paris, with the magnificent Musée du
Louvre sitting as the focal point of the huge axis that runs all the way
along the Champs-Elysées up to the Arc de Triomphe and beyond.
The Louvre’s main courtyard opens onto the beautifully landscaped
Jardin des Tuileries, which in turn faces the impressive Place de la
Concorde. Just to the north of the Louvre sits the Palais Royal, once a
royal residence, now an elegant series of buildings arranged around
a garden arcaded by shops. This nestles alongside the Comédie
Française, France’s most famous theatre. The district is also home to
elegant streets and squares, including the rue de Rivoli and the
Place Vendôme, all lined with chic hotels, restaurants and
boutiques, as well as the Place des Victoires, which is centred on
an imposing equestrian statue of King Louis XIV.
