Cimetière du Montparnasse
7
Walk up rue Froidevaux and the Cimetière du Montparnasse will be on your right. It is one of a number of cemeteries planned outside the city walls by Napoleon to replace the small, unsanitary cemeteries in the city, which were increasingly seen as a health hazard in the 19th century. It opened in 1824 and is, like most French cemeteries, divided into neatly arranged blocks connected by paths crossing at right angles.
