Between rue Royale and rue Boissy d’Anglas sits a charming little cité – a type of self-enclosed residential enclave typical of Paris. Formerly the home of glass-workers and silversmiths, it nestles amidst a distinctly fashionable part of the city and contained a number of excellent 18th-century town houses, including the former home of the Duchesse d’Abrantès.
The cité was converted into an open-air shopping mall in 1994 by the architect Laurent Bourgois, who has married its classic charm with convenient modern elements to create an extremely stylish place to shop in. It can be approached from both sides, with the rue Royale entrance located at No. 25. It is now home to a number of upmarket shops, including Chanel and Dior. There is also a lovely café.
