Retrace your steps up Boulevard Montmartre and turn left onto rue Vivienne. The Palais de la Bourse will be on your left after a short distance. The French stock exchange was founded by Napoleon to unify the various stock-trading activities that were taking place across the city. Housed between 1826 and 1987 in this imposing temple-like structure designed by architect Alexandre-Theodore Brongniart, it is a strict peristyle with a colonnade of Corinthian columns in light beige sandstone. Today the stock market has moved to No. 29 rue Cambon and this once busy Palais de la Bourse is used for the Matif (futures market) and the Monep (the traded options market).
