La Manufacture des Gobelins
only making tapestries, no dyeing is carried out here any more. The building was destroyed by fire during the Commune of 1871, and this new, jauntily-symmetrical replacement was built in 1913, although some of the 17th- and 18th-century interiors have survived. Today, weavers continue working in the traditional way but produce more modern patterns, including designs by Picasso and Matisse.
