If you’re feeling in need of a sweet tonic, a big mug of this tea is exactly what you want. It’s also great if you want something rounded and flavorsome, but you’re not really hungry enough for dessert. The honey makes it deliciously sweet, while the lemon gives a citrus infusion and the ginger and cayenne work to add a touch of spice to each sip.
Serves 1
scant 1 ounce fresh ginger
juice of 1/4 lemon
pinch of cayenne pepper
1–2 teaspoons honey
Peel the ginger, then cut it into 4 chunks and place these in a saucepan with 11/4 cups of water. Let it boil for about 10 minutes.
Pour the water from the saucepan into a mug, leaving the chunks of ginger behind.
Stir in the lemon juice, cayenne and honey.
Tweak It
If you don’t like things too hot, omit the cayenne pepper; the ginger will be spicy enough on its own.
