When they reached the cabin, the men unloaded the vehicles as the women wandered through the cabin. The place was huge, with four large bedrooms on the main floor and three bedrooms downstairs in the basement area. Sher loved that they had a very large kitchen for cooking.
Each person rolled their luggage into the room of their choice, all of which were beautifully decorated and cozy.
As Sher unpacked her suitcase, her mind wandered back a couple of days, before she had driven to Lynn’s condo for the girls’ week.
She and Glen had shared a magic night of romance and lovemaking. He’d filled the tub with her favorite bath salts and lit candles. After she lowered herself into the wonderful warm water, he joined her. She still felt his hands gently washing her body, and she felt his body react to her hands washing him. It only took a short time before they ended up in his large bed, as they continued to lift each other to the heights of passion. Sher remembered how she felt a few moments afterward. She never wanted to come down from those heights—ever.
Then just twenty-four hours after she and Glen had shared those beautiful moments, they were all trapped in a cocoon of fear. She wasn’t sure if she or her friends were able to handle much more. Sher daydreamed of the day this mess was over and all three couples would be able to share their love for one another without drama or fear. Her thoughts then went to a dark place. What if some of them made it out of this intact, but others did not? She erased those thoughts from her mind. They all had to make it out. They had a triple wedding planned, so she refused to entertain any more negative thoughts.
When Sher finally joined the others in the main room of the cabin, she saw Hannah and Lynn in the kitchen, which reminded her just how hungry she was.
“I thought we’d have something light tonight, so we’re fixing chef salad. Does that sound all right?” Hannah asked Sher.
“Perfect, I am hungry but the thought of eating a large meal kind of turns my stomach. You always know what we need,” Sher told her future sister-in-law as she gave her a big hug.
“I see the men are taking us at our words and staying downstairs. We’ll have to let them know they can have their meals with us,” Lynn said with a giggle.
“Yes, we can’t let them go hungry. They’ll need all their strength for the honeymoon,” Hannah added with a snicker.
Sher made a pitcher of lemonade, poured glasses, and put them on the table before calling the men upstairs. They were all smiles when they saw their evening feast on the table.
“We were getting a little hungry and wondered if we’d have to cook for ourselves,” Brad said, laughing.
Hannah gently punched him in the arm. “We aren’t going to let you three starve; we need you for the honeymoons.” She winked lasciviously, which made everyone break out into hearty laughter.
Conversation stayed on the light side during dinner. Afterward, the men volunteered for clean-up duty.
“Join me on the back deck,” Glen whispered in Sher’s ear as he came up behind and hugged her.
Sher smiled and followed him out the sliding glass doors to the large back deck. As she stood next to the railing, she admired the beautiful mountains in the distance. She imagined there would be many satisfied families who stayed in this cabin.
“I miss having you next to me at night,” Glen said softly as he pulled her gently back toward him.
She turned round in his arms and said in a throaty whisper, “I miss our intimate times too. Earlier I reminisced about our last night together and how perfectly we made love.”
Glen ran his hands down her back and cupped her backside as he pulled her even closer to him. She felt the desire build within her and regretted that she couldn’t fulfill her hunger right at that moment, in this place. She also felt Glen’s desire, as she was so firmly pressed up against him.
“Honey, I want you too, more than you could know, but we have to wait. Our honeymoon will be more special and fulfilling if we put our wants on hold a few more days,” Sher said lovingly.
A frustrated sigh escaped Glen’s lips as he said, “I know you’re right. I’m just finding it so hard not to take you into any bedroom right now and ravage that beautiful body of yours.”
Just as she was about to admit that she had the exact same thoughts, the remainder of their party interrupted them.
“Look at that gorgeous view. I could stay here for months,” Hannah told Brad as she, too, stood in her man’s arms.
“I know that’s one of the reasons Todd and I picked this spot to build. You can barely see it, but there’s a large creek about five hundred yards down from that huge rock formation. It’s called a large creek, but it’s more like a small river to me. It’s pretty deep in spots and has a strong current,” Brad said.
“I wish we could walk down and see the creek, but I know that’s not a great idea at this time,” Sher said.
Rick and Lynn stood in the corner of the deck, deep in whispered conversation. She wondered if theirs was a duplicate of her and Glen’s earlier talk. From their smiles and the looks they exchanged, she felt certain it was almost exactly the same.
They all stayed outside until the sky began to darken. Then Rick announced, “We need to move this Love Fest inside, folks.”
When they were all indoors again, and the glass doors were locked, Glen asked the three women, “Do you all have remote key fobs for your cars with you?”
Sher looked at Hannah, who looked back in confusion, then they both glanced at Lynn, who spoke up and said, “I do, do you two have yours?”
“Why?” Sher asked.
“It’s a safety precaution. Keep them by your beds, and if you hear anything during the night, or see anything, I want you to hit the alarm button on those fobs. That will notify the rest of us that something is going on, and we’ll all come running,” Glen explained.
“We’ll let you women have your alone time now, but remember, we are right downstairs if you need us,” Rick said, leaning in to kiss Lynn goodnight.
Brad and Glen also gave the women they loved goodnight kisses. Sher felt empty when she released Glen from her arms, but was also glad that she had some time for just Hannah and Lynn.
“Hannah, with all that has happened, I feel like I’ve ignored you, and I do apologize. How are you feeling?” Sher asked.
“I feel wonderful physically. The baby’s growing, and I too am growing. I can’t wait to see if it’s a boy or girl. Although neither Brad nor I really care which, I just want to start fixing up the nursery. Don’t think either one of you will get out of helping either.”
“Yes, Hannah will put you to work painting the walls. I’ve been there before, but I will gladly help paint walls again,” Sher said.
“Me too, I would love to help. Just tell us when you’re ready,” Lynn said. “But now I think I’m ready for sleep. Please don’t forget your key fobs. I’d hate to get the men all riled up if we forget to keep them by our bedsides.”
“That’s right; we have to follow orders from the men who love us,” Hannah said with an exaggerated head roll.
In unison, the women lifted their key fobs in the air and saluted.
Downstairs in the basement, Glen asked Brad, “How well do you know the area around this cabin?”
“Pretty well. We spent eight months building it, and I was on sight every day…why?”
“I’m thinking…even if someone could locate us, he wouldn’t be able to drive directly up to the cabin. That would tip us all off. Is there another road or track someone could drive on to get close to us?”
Brad thought for a minute and then snapped his fingers. “Yes, there’s an old, unused dirt road that circles around to the left of the cabin.”
Glenn nodded, pursing his lips. “Okay, here’s the plan. If any of the women set off their alarms, you, Brad, go out this downstairs door and circle around toward that dirt road. If there’s a vehicle parked there, disable it in any way you can. Flatten the tires, tear out the distributor cap, I don’t care how, just make sure you do. We don’t want anyone to get near the women.”
He pointed at Rick and continued, “Rick, you will also go out this door and circle around the cabin and try to locate anyone who doesn’t belong here. I’ll go upstairs and make sure no one’s inside. Remember to tread lightly and watch your back. We don’t know if anyone will show up, or if someone does, how many. I’d feel better knowing we’re prepared,” Glen said, adding, “Let’s get some sleep. I know Sher, and she’ll be up early.”
