Chapter 15

The day finally arrived. All three couples would be wed in a few hours. The three brides-to-be were not a bit nervous. The joining of each couple was meant to be, and they all looked forward to sharing their lives with the men of their lives. Sher and Brad had closed on their new home the day before, finally. Lynn and Rick finally had joined the others at the cabin, and they were recuperating nicely. Both wore bandages over their wounds, and each had an arm in a sling, but that wasn’t going to stop the weddings.

The women separated from the men early that morning after Rick got the phone call from Dallas. Apparently the taskforce seized the drugs and gave a statement to the Dallas media regarding how they were able to confiscate the drug stash. With that statement, the gang members had no other reason to come after Lynn or anyone else.

With such feelings of freedom, the women spent the morning at the salon having their nails and hair done to perfection. They applied makeup and last minute touches as they laughed and talked.

To Sher, it seemed like a lifetime just to reach this point. Finally. The more the women talked, the more they had to reapply makeup. They kept crying tears of joy, and although the mascara said it was waterproof, it wasn’t. Finally, after the third time of washing the makeup off and starting over, they agreed: no more mushy conversations.

The wedding-guest lists were short, just special friends the couples wanted to share their joy with. The brides had no one to walk them down the aisle, as the men they were closest to were already in the wedding. Hannah, Lynn, and Sher decided they would walk single file down the aisle, and they were content with that plan.

When it was time for them to put their wedding dresses on, each one helped the other. When they finished, they almost ruined their makeup once again. They all agreed each one looked beautiful.

“It’s about time, girls,” the bridesmaids said as they entered the room.

Sher smiled and looked at her two best friends, who smiled also. “This is it. Our new lives have started. Let’s do this,” Sher said as all three women hugged before heading out of the room.
