Week 2 Day 2
Be Brave
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Ephesians 6:16
Let faith exert its conquering power,
Say in thy tempted, trembling hour,
“My God, my Father, save thy son!”
’Tis heard—and all thy fears are done.
When Lincoln was a young soldier during the Black Hawk War, he showed what it means to be brave. An Indian came into the camp with a paper of safe conduct. But because the members of Lincoln’s company were exasperated by recent Indian barbarities, they conspired to kill him. At the moment the men were about to shoot the Indian, Lincoln rushed forward, struck up the muskets with his hands, and standing in front of the victim, declared that he should not be killed. It was with great difficulty that the men could be kept from their purpose, but the courage and firmness of Lincoln thwarted them. Surely the men could have overpowered Lincoln, but the bravery of his convictions kept them from murdering the innocent Indian. The example of Lincoln’s brave heart stopped the murder.
