Week 4 Day 1
Make the Best of It
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation.
Revelation 3:10
Thus preserved from Satan’s wiles,
Safe from dangers, free from fears,
May I live upon thy smiles,
Till the promised hour appears:
When the sons of God shall prove
All their Father’s boundless love.
Before young Abraham Lincoln became an attorney, he accepted a clerical job at the local post office, eventually becoming its postmaster, because nobody else wanted the tedious, mind-numbing work. If the work was so boring, why did Abraham Lincoln aspire to be a mailman? He later told a friend it was because it gave him the opportunity to read every newspaper in the vicinity, helping him to learn more about his community and the country. Because Lincoln was poor, he had never been able to get half the newspapers he wanted before. This supposed menial job turned out to be quite an education for Lincoln and one that helped propel him into local politics. Sometimes in life you have to look a little harder to make the best of your situation. You can learn something from just about anything. Like Lincoln, even if you’re unhappy with your present state, you should try to make the best of it. You might be surprised at how much you learn.
