Week 5 Day 4
Promote Reconciliation
The Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Romans 8:26
Let pure devotion’s fervours rise,
Let every holy feeling glow;
Oh, let the rapture of the skies
Kindle in our cold hearts below.
Come, vivifying Spirit, come,
And make our hearts thy constant home.
“Persuade your neighbor to compromise whenever you can,” the young Abe Lincoln counseled a law student. It was unusual advice coming from a lawyer, someone whose profession involved being adversarial. But Lincoln preferred not to take sides. Instead, he helped other people settle their differences. He was a reconciler. It was for this reason people liked to confide in Lincoln and ask him for advice. Are you a peacekeeper or a troublemaker? The next time an argument flares up in your face, try not to pick a side, but be a reconciler and help to settle differences.
