Week 6 Day 4
Deserters Always Lose
This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13–14
A scrip on my back, and a staff in my hand,
I march on in haste through an enemy’s land:
The road may be rough, but it cannot be long,
So I’ll smooth it with hope, and I’ll cheer it with song.
One of Lincoln’s biggest challenges as commander in chief was to keep his troops from quitting. The horrors of battle caused many soldiers to run away. So he set an example. He told them, “Many free countries have lost their liberty, and ours may lose hers; but if she shall, be it my proudest plume, not that I was the last to desert, but that I never deserted her.” Lincoln let all those around him know that he’d be there at the end. Are you committed to be available to your family and friends always? Make a vow that you will always be there, that you won’t ever desert them. If you keep your vow, you’ll never lack the support to achieve your life’s goals.
