Give God Credit

That on the good ground are they, which in honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Father of mercies, we have need

Of thy preparing grace;

Let the same hand that gives the seed

Provide a fruitful place.

Lincoln’s close friend Joshua Speed got married as a result of an introduction Lincoln made at a ball. When Joshua thanked the president many years later, Lincoln refused to take the credit. “I believe God made me one of the instruments of bringing your family and you together, which union, I have no doubt, he foreordained.” Lincoln was humble enough to know that the sovereignty of God was undeniable. Do you give God enough credit? We sometimes take the credit for something that was really beyond our control. The next time someone thanks you, try turning the thanks over to God, who makes all things possible. You’ll be surprised at how others respond to your modest reply.
