Be God’s Instrument

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John 8:36

Sweet is the freedom Christ bestows,

With which he makes his people free,

A liberty no mortal knows

Till thy his great salvation see.

A slave in North Carolina once exclaimed to Colonel Jim McKaye of New York, “Lincoln is everywhere. He knows everything and walks the earth like the Lord!” When Colonel McKaye conveyed the story to President Lincoln, Lincoln responded, “It is a momentous thing to be the instrument, under God, of the liberation of a race.” Lincoln recognized that he was God’s instrument, to be used for his purposes. Are you God’s instrument, or do you run your life according to your own rules? From Lincoln’s perspective, God’s hand was directing the country. He was only God’s humble instrument in the task. Think of yourself as a vessel God created for his purposes. Let God use you and your gifts for his glory.
