Week 9 Day 5

Don’t Run with the Crowd

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Habakkuk 3:17–18

Although my wealth and comfort’s lost,

My blooming hopes cut off I see,

Yet will I in my Saviour trust,

Whose matchless grace can reach to me.

Lead or be led. That’s the issue Abraham Lincoln often faced during the country’s crisis. During the war, there was a lot of talk about quitting. He urged his fellow Americans not to yield to popular whims and trendy thinking, but to be strong in God’s sovereignty. “Let there be no compromise on the question of extending slavery,” he said. “If there be, all our labor is lost, and ere long, must be done again. The dangerous ground is Popular Sovereignty. Have none of it. Stand firm.” Does peer pressure dictate what you believe? Don’t let other people change your mind just because things don’t appear to be going the way they ought. Be diligent.
