Week 11 Day 3

Make Plain Your Plans

There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

Psalm 4:6–7

Lord, what is Life? If spent with thee,

In humble praise and prayer,

How long or short my life may be

I feel no anxious care:

Though life depart, my joys shall last,

When life and all its joys are past.

President Lincoln was straightforward in his dealings with others. He sought to be plainly understood. When he took the Oval Office, he presented himself and his plans to Congress simply, without convolution. He had no hidden agendas. “I wish at all times in no way to practice any fraud upon the House or the committee,” he said, “and I also desire to do nothing which may be very disagreeable to any of the members of Congress.” Are you frank with other people, or do you leave room for doubt? People who are fuzzy in their words and actions leave too much room for uncertainty. Be straightforward with people.
