Week 11 Day 4
Advocate the Truth
Love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Luke 6:35
Lord, shall thy bright example shine
In vain before my eyes?
Give me a soul akin to thine,
To love my enemies.
Lincoln believed so strongly in the truth, he was willing to give the supreme sacrifice—his life. He drew the battle line on the principles of justice and freedom. “If it is decreed that I should go down because of this speech, then let me go down linked to the truth. Let me die in the advocacy of what is just and right,” he said. Lincoln’s willingness to sacrifice his life gave the country confidence. It was his willingness to die that helped the Union make sacrifices to fight for freedom and justice. Are you willing to die for the truth? Where have you drawn your own battle lines? Take a position in life and let the world know that is where you stand. Be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, and everyone around you will join your cause.
