Week 12 Day 4

Give a Graceful Way Out

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Isaiah 26:3

Saviour, on earth I covet not

That every woe should cease;

Only, if trouble be my lot,

In thee let me have peace.

Over the course of his life, Lincoln not only learned to forgive and forget, but he did so in biblical proportions. He was world renowned for his compassion. “I am a patient man—always willing to forgive on the Christian terms of repentance; and also to give ample time for repentance,” he wrote. It was God’s Word that helped Lincoln learn to be so benevolent. And it was the Bible that caused Lincoln to be slow to judge and quick to repent and forgive. Do you give other people grace? Do you expect others to ask for forgiveness right away, or are you willing to give time even for the most obstinate? Lincoln gave a graceful way out, the same way God gives.
