Week 13 Day 4

Don’t Be Diverted

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Matthew 6:24

Not a broken, brief obedience

Does the Lord of heaven demand;

He requires our whole allegiance,

Words and deeds, and heart and hand:

God will hold divided sway

With no deity of clay.

A young military cadet once asked Lincoln how to best get ahead in life. Lincoln’s advice was not only to ignore his critics, but to simply imagine there were none. “The way for a young man to rise is to improve himself every way he can, never suspecting that anybody wishes to hinder him,” he wrote. He told the young man to forge a path uninhibited by the objections of others. Are you dissuaded by the possibility of criticism, afraid to act because of what others might say? Lincoln believed the way to success was to be so optimistic as to think nobody would stand in your way. Lincoln took a stand and ignored his critics. Follow his example. Don’t be diverted!
