Week 13 Day 5
Take Your Time
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
Psalm 31:19
This is the hope that shall sustain me
Till life’s pilgrimage be past;
Fears may vex, and troubles pain me,
I shall reach my home at last.
Lincoln wasn’t hasty. “Nothing valuable can be lost by taking time,” he warned. If a thing was to be done right, it took staying power. If a goal was important, if it was the right thing to do, then prudence dictated that it be done in due time. Life presents itself with all sorts of opportunities, good and bad choices. Lincoln believed, “If there be an object to hurry any of you, in haste, to a step which you would never take deliberately, that object will be frustrated by taking time; but no good object can be frustrated by it.” Are you impatient to reach your goals? If there is something you aim to do, take your time and do it right. According to Lincoln, the thing you want will be there if it’s worthwhile.
