Week 14 Day 3
On Blame
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
Psalm 37:37
How bless’d the righteous when he dies,
When sinks a weary soul to rest!
How mildly beam the closing eyes!
How gently heaves the’ expiring breast!
Life’s labour done, as sinks the clay,
Light from its load the spirit flies;
While heaven and earth combine to say,
“How bless’d the righteous when he dies!”
When things aren’t going the way we expected, it’s easy to blame others. When Lincoln was opposed for a second term in the Oval Office, he politely reminded the country that it wasn’t his doing that got the country in trouble. He didn’t claim to be the ideal leader, but he did remind them not to jump ship out of fear that the ship might sink. “I have not permitted myself, gentlemen, to conclude that I am the best man in the country; but I am reminded, in this connection, of a story of a farmer, who remarked to a companion once that it is not best to swap horses when crossing streams.” Do you blame others for your problems and then ditch those people just when you need them most?
