Week 14 Day 5

Work on Your Character

Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

2 Corinthians 4:17

All trials and sorrows the Christian prepare

For the rest that remaineth above;

On earth tribulation awaits him, but there

The smile of unchangeable love.

Lincoln spent a great deal of time developing his character. For him, strong moral fiber wasn’t something that just happened. It was something you worked on. Like a tree in a forest, character grows with the proper nourishment. “A man’s character is like a tree and his reputation like its shadow; the shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing,” he said. Do you work on your character, striving to improve it and to build your integrity? Lincoln made a point to work on his character by praying, by reading the Bible and other virtuous books, and by learning all he could. Character development was something he viewed as purposeful, not incidental. Don’t let your character grow only by accident.
