Week 17 Day 4

Be a Peacemaker

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

Romans 7:21

Oh! who can free my troubled mind

From sin’s oppressive load?

O wretched man! how shall I find

Acceptance with my God?

My soul with transport turns to thee,

To thee my Saviour turns;

Cleansed by thy blood, and saved by grace,

My soul no longer mourns.

When Lincoln was caught between two sides in an argument, he refused to jump in right away. Instead, he helped the disputants understand each other and get over their disagreement. “When I have friends who disagree with each other, I am very slow to take sides in their quarrel,” he told a constituent. Lincoln looked for harmony. Ironically, the man who led the country through the gravest war in American history was, by nature, a peacemaker. Maybe that’s why he was able to hold the nation together. Are you a peacemaker or a war wager? Those who help keep the peace are often the ones called to lead. The spirit of compromise wins wars.
