Week 18 Day 1
Finish What You Start
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
Proverbs 4:14–15
A wicked world and wicked heart
With Satan are combined:
Each acts a too successful part,
In harassing my mind.
But fighting in my Saviour’s strength,
Though mighty are my foes,
I shall a conqueror be at length
O’er all that can oppose.
Abraham Lincoln had a pet peeve: quitting halfway through a project. Perhaps his strong work ethic, developed as a child, caused him to work so hard to complete a task. “Half-finished work generally proves to be labor lost,” he said. We should appreciate Lincoln’s rigid, finish-a-job-started attitude, because it was his persistence that helped the Union finish its job. We can also cultivate this character trait in our own personal lives. How many jobs have you started but not finished? For every job you fail to complete, you have lost all the time it took to get started. If you make up your mind ahead of time, there’s no telling how much you can accomplish if you just finish what you started.
