Week 19 Day 3
Acknowledge God’s Wisdom
Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
2 Corinthians 7:10
My lips with shame my sins confess
Against thy law, against thy grace:
Lo, should thy judgments grow severe,
I am condemn’d, but thou art clear.
When Lincoln had self-doubts, he would remind himself that God’s wisdom prevails. When the war was going badly for the Union, he wrote, “We hoped for a happy termination of this terrible war long before this; but God knows best and has ruled otherwise. We shall yet acknowledge his wisdom and our own error therein. Meanwhile we must work earnestly in the best light he gives us, trusting that so working still conduces to the great ends he ordains.” When in doubt, do you trust God’s wisdom? Even when things don’t go your way, if you believe God, you can rest assured God has his reasons.
