Week 20 Day 2
Read the Bible
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works.
Revelation 2:4–5
I need the influence of thy grace
To speed me in the way,
Lest I should loiter in my pace,
Or turn my feet astray.
We all have favorite books—books that teach and encourage us to reach our goals. The Bible was important to Abraham Lincoln. It was the first book he read and studied as a child, and he reportedly memorized large sections of it. “In regards to this great Book,” he wrote to a friend, “I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to men. All the good Savior gave to this world was communicated through this Book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man’s welfare, here and hereafter, are to be found portrayed in it.” Certainly many of Lincoln’s qualities as a leader, including his honesty and humility, were learned from the Bible. It was, in fact, his most important resource. Is the Bible your book of choice?
