Week 20 Day 4

Sustained by God’s People

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

James 1:13–14

My crimes, though great, do not surpass

The power and glory of thy grace;

Oh! wash my soul from every sin,

And make my guilty conscience clean.

President Lincoln looked not only to God but also to God’s people for help. Lincoln believed America was a chosen people, a people picked by God to protect the cause of freedom and justice on earth. So when he needed encouragement, he would go to those people whom God had appointed. “It is true . . . that very great responsibility rests upon me in the position to which the votes of the American people have called me. . . . I turn, then, and look to the American people, and to that God who has never forsaken them.” Do you turn to God’s people for help, asking them to support you? If God gave you a mission, he didn’t intend for you to achieve it alone.
