Week 20 Day 5
The Body of Christ Unites
They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1 Timothy 6:9
Oh lay not up upon this earth
Your hopes, your joys, your treasure,
Here sorrow clouds the pilgrim’s path,
And blights each opening pleasure.
All, all below must fade and die,
The dearest hopes we cherish,
Scenes touch’d with brightest radiancy,
All are decreed to perish.
Belief in the idea of God, a higher power, was not enough for Abraham Lincoln. He professed faith in the God of the Bible and the New Testament, and it was this faith that helped see him through. “We are bound together in Christianity,” he once wrote, “. . . and while some of us may differ in political opinions, we are united in one feeling for the Union. We all believe in the maintenance of the Union, of every star and stripe of the glorious flag.” Christ united Lincoln’s America. Are you united with others by Christ? The message of salvation, given by Jesus, is the only true source of unity for you, your family, and friends. That’s why Lincoln relied on it, and you can too.
