Week 21 Day 1

Position Yourself for the Future

Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 6:1–2

Shall we go on to sin,

Because thy grace abounds?

Or crucify the Lord again,

And open all his wounds?

We will be slaves no more,

Since Christ has made us free;

Has nail’d our tyrants to his cross,

And bought our liberty.

Sometimes to survive a crisis, you have to focus on the future, not the present. To help the nation survive the war, Lincoln often reminded the country that the sacrifices being made were for future generations. It was for the children, and the children of their children, that the Union must be reunited. Lincoln was right, of course. Because of the sacrifices made during the Civil War, millions of Americans are free. More than 150 years ago, Lincoln proclaimed, “The struggle of today is not altogether for today—it is for a vast future also.” All of today’s struggles are for a better tomorrow. Are you positioned for the future?
