Week 21 Day 2

Be Prepared to Sacrifice for God

Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 6:1–2

Shall we go on to sin,

Because thy grace abounds?

Or crucify the Lord again,

And open all his wounds?

We will be slaves no more,

Since Christ has made us free;

Has nail’d our tyrants to his cross,

And bought our liberty.

Lincoln knew he might not get to see the end of the Civil War. He knew the things he stood for might cause his ultimate demise. But that wasn’t grounds for him to back down. He simply trusted God. He wrote, “I do not consider I have ever accomplished anything without God; and if it is his will that I must die by the hand of an assassin, I must be resigned. I must do my duty as I see it, and leave the rest with God.” Be prepared to sacrifice in life. If the cause you live for is true, and if God has called you to it, then you have no option but to give up your life for it. Have you noticed that those men and women of the past who are most remembered are also the ones who sacrificed the most? Rely on God enough to give up your life to him and his purposes.
