Make Honesty Your Goal
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think.
Romans 12:3
Lord, if thou thy grace impart,
Poor in spirit, meek in heart,
I shall, as my Saviour, be
Rooted in humility:
Pleas’d with all the Lord provides,
Wean’d from all the world besides.
When someone is described as being “ambitious,” we usually think of that person as being aggressive, high-strung, or even pushy. These are all characteristics with which none of us wants to be associated. So how can we be ambitious but still maintain the respect of other people? For Abraham Lincoln, the answer was simple. He staked his future on integrity and believed that all other successes would follow in the footsteps of honesty. “Every man is said to have his peculiar ambition,” said Lincoln. “Whether it be true or not, I can say for one that I have no other so great as that of being truly esteemed of my fellow men by rendering myself worthy of their esteem.” Are you ambitiously pursuing integrity?
