Week 24 Day 3
Be Bold
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Psalm 37:3–4
The birds without barn or store house are fed;
From them let us learn to trust for our bread:
His saints what is fitting shall ne’er be denied,
So long as ’tis written, The Lord will provide.
When Lincoln felt depressed and defeated, when the tide seemed to be turning against him, he looked not at his circumstances. Instead, he looked deep inside his own heart at the principles he knew to be true. He looked at the greatness of his cause and at God’s will for his life. It was there that he found the power to proceed. He wrote in his journal, “If ever I feel the soul within me elevate and expand to those dimensions not wholly unworthy of its Almighty Architect, it is when I contemplate the cause of my country, deserted by the world beside, and I standing up boldly and alone and hurling defiance at her victorious oppressors.” If your circumstances make you want to cry, don’t look at them. Look deeper at those things in your life you know to be true. Look to God and his purposes for the strength to be bold.
