Week 25 Day 2

Pray through Your Battles

Thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

Psalm 3:3

Lord, let thy grace surround me still,

And Like a bulwark, prove,

To guard my soul from every ill,

Secured by sovereign love.

After the Battle of Gettysburg, General James Rusling went to Lincoln about the battle at Vicksburg and asked for his thoughts. Rusling was concerned and wanted to know if Lincoln had any insight. “I have been praying for Vicksburg,” Lincoln replied, “and I believe our heavenly Father is going to give us victory there too.” Lincoln’s reply startled General Rusling. He didn’t expect Lincoln to talk about prayer and faith, but about military strategies. It was clear that Lincoln put as much trust in God as he did in his troops. He prayed through his battles. How do you get through battles in your life? Do you depend on your own strength or on the strength of God? If you follow Lincoln’s lead, you can depend on a source greater than your own. You can put away worry and fear and concentrate on more important things. Pray through your battles!
