Week 26 Day 5
An Honest Man Comes Clean
Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Ephesians 5:2
Among the saints on earth
Let mutual love be found;
Heirs of the same inheritance,
With mutual blessings crown’d.
One of the oddest letters ever received by President Abraham Lincoln was sent anonymously. It contained $860 and an apology. The sender apparently had stolen the money from the government. “Being tempted, in an unguarded moment,” he wrote, “I consented to take it being very much in want of money, but thanks be to my Savior, I was led by the influences of the Holy Spirit to see my great sin and to return it to you as the representative of the United States.” Lincoln’s reputation for being an honest representative of the United States of America loomed so large, this particular person felt responsible to do good in his sight. The better your reputation, the better people will act before you.
