Week 27 Day 2
A Must Attitude
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit . . . and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.
Ephesians 6:18–19
With heavenly power, O Lord, defend
Those whom we now to thee commend;
Thy faithful messengers secure,
And make them to the end endure.
Lincoln was tenacious and unyielding. He believed victory was handed to those who had the most desire to win. Once a young colonel came to him for advice. “Having made the attempt,” he said, “you must succeed in it.” Must is the operative word here. “I know not how to aid you save in the assurance of one of mature age,” he continued, “and much severe experience, that you can not fail if you resolutely determine that you will not.” Do you have a must attitude? President Lincoln knew the stakes were high during the Civil War. Freedom and justice hung in the balance, and the lives of hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children were at stake. What if Lincoln expressed to the Union that they might win the war? What if he merely told them, it was possible? How do you look at your life and the things you want to accomplish? Have Lincoln’s attitude. You must.
