Week 27 Day 5

Use God’s Word

The Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you.

1 Thessalonians 3:12

May love, that shining grace,

O’er all my powers preside;

Direct my thoughts, suggest my words,

And every action guide.

President Abraham Lincoln often went to the Bible for wisdom. Once an opposing political candidate asked Lincoln to say he was sorry for the position he took on the slavery issue. Lincoln knew he was right and refused to apologize. He replied to his opponent with a scriptural illustration. “Repentance before forgiveness is a provision of the Christian system,” he told a crowd, “and on that condition alone will the Republicans grant forgiveness.” Lincoln’s response silenced his critics. Do you refer to God’s Word only in church or only when you’re praying, or do you live it every day? Lincoln used the Bible to support a view he knew was right. He leaned on God’s Word not only in his private devotional time, but as an instrument to live by, day after day. He wasn’t afraid to speak God’s words, because he knew the truthfulness of Scripture would speak louder than anything else he might say.
