Week 28 Day 4
Ask for God’s Favor First
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
John 13:15
Thy fair example may I trace,
To teach me what I ought to be:
Make me, by thy transforming grace,
My Saviour, daily more like thee.
When Lincoln plunged into war against the Confederacy, he asked not only for the support of his country, but for God’s favor. Do you remember to ask for God’s favor? The next time you find yourself in a bind, between a rock and a hard place, take the words of Lincoln as he too started something he knew was going to be hard. “Upon this act,” he wrote, “sincerely believed to be an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution, upon military necessity, I invoke the considerable judgment of mankind, and the gracious favor of Almighty God.” Asking for God’s mercy, wisdom, and goodwill isn’t just an extra step; it’s the first step.
