Week 30 Day 1
The Bible Is Relevant
In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity.
Titus 2:7
Pure may I be, averse to sin,
Just, holy, merciful, and true;
And let thine image form’d within,
Shine out in all I speak or do.
President Lincoln, a devoted Bible reader, claimed that the Bible helped move him to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing America’s slaves, in 1863. When making his decision, he looked to the history of the Jews, who were enslaved in Egypt. He likened the situation to when Moses asked Pharaoh to let God’s people go. Lincoln especially noted the words in Exodus 6:5: “I [God] have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage.” Lincoln often looked to God’s Word for help in making decisions. He took examples from the Bible and applied them to his daily life. The Word of God was relevant for Lincoln, and it can be relevant in your life too.
