Week 31 Day 3
Don’t Be Afraid to Fail
Ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Romans 6:17–18
Love is the fountain whence
All true obedience flows;
The Christian serves the God he loves,
And loves the God he knows.
One reason Abraham Lincoln succeeded in life was because he wasn’t afraid to fail. In fact, failure was the key to his success. Why? Because he looked upon failure as a learning experience. He may have been disappointed when he failed, but he didn’t let it stop him. Failure was his schoolhouse. Ever since Lincoln was a boy, he was accustomed to bearing the brunt of life’s failures and disappointments. Life often didn’t go his way. But at every turn of events, good or bad, Lincoln would observe what happened, make mental notes, and move on. Newspaper publisher Horace Greeley once said of Lincoln, “He slowly won his way to eminence and fame doing the work that lay next to him—doing it with all his growing might—doing it as well as he could, and learning by his failure, when failure was encountered, how to do it better.”
