Week 33 Day 1
Take Refuge in God
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22–23
’Tis God himself the ground prepares,
His Spirit sows the land;
And every pleasant fruit it bears,
Is nurtur’d by his hand.
Once Abraham Lincoln was called to the side of a young, dying soldier. Comforting the young man was most assuredly a hard thing to do. Words don’t come easily. Lincoln didn’t have many words to give, but what he said made all the difference. “He notes the fall of a sparrow and numbers the hair of our heads; and He will not forget the dying man who puts his trust in him,” he said, paraphrasing the Bible. That’s all that needed to be said. For when you believe in a God who cares for the birds of the air, there’s no need to worry about what’s going to happen to you. We don’t know much more about this dying soldier, but we do know his circumstance was much like we’ll all face someday. When we do, let’s remember the words of Abraham Lincoln. If we put our trust in God, there’s no cause for concern.
