Week 33 Day 2

Call upon the Name of the Lord

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Ephesians 4:29

Wheresoever two or three

Meet, a Christian company,

Grant us, Lord, to meet with thee:

Gracious Saviour, hear!

When with friends beloved we stray,

Talking down the closing day,

Saviour, meet us in the way:

Gracious Saviour, hear!

“Call upon and confide in our great and good and merciful Maker, who will not turn away . . . in any extremity,” Abraham Lincoln wrote. Why did he call on the name of the Lord? He called on God because he believed God was great enough to help, good enough to want to help, and benevolent enough to answer his prayers. Lincoln called on God because he trusted that God was on his side and that he was able, ready, and willing to help. Lincoln was so confident in God, he told the nation to call upon his name “in any extremity.” It makes no difference how difficult the situation, God is there to help. If Lincoln, who faced war and death, could call upon the name of the Lord, then why not you and I during our trials?
