Week 34 Day 4
To Be Fair
Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8
Father of eternai grace,
Glorify thyself in me;
Meekly beaming in my face,
May the world thine image see.
One doesn’t have to be very old to spot an injustice. Even children complain about things that are unfair. We all feel, at times, that our circumstances are unreasonable or excessive. We all feel like we’re not treated equally or that we’re the victims of bias. Some people are actually preoccupied with all the things in their lives that aren’t fair. Lincoln was aware of man’s obsession with the fairness principle. He once reminded his cabinet, “There is no keeping men silent when they feel they are wronged by their friends.” By that Lincoln meant to treat other people fairly, with justice. You can’t control whether others treat you fairly, but you can control how fairly you treat others.
