Week 34 Day 5

Where to Find Bad Advice

I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

1 Corinthians 9:27

When thy statutes I forsake,

When my graces dimly shine,

When my covenant I break,

Jesus, then remember thine:

Check my wanderings

By look of love divine.

It’s surprising how people rely on advice from those they don’t even know. Advice isn’t very hard to find. Everyone, it seems, is glad to give you a piece of their mind. They’ll tell you what to do and how to do it. No matter what the subject or the circumstance, everyone has an answer. That is why it is so important to be careful whose advice you take. Lincoln had a rule: “The interference of outsiders generally does more harm than good. It breeds confusion and, with it, delays and neglect.” Lincoln recommended finding advice among one’s friends, those who know you best and care for you the most. Otherwise, you’ll get advice you can’t trust.
