Week 35 Day 2
When You’re Down and Out, Don’t Tear Down Others
Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Colossians 3:17
Whate’er I say or do,
Thy glory be my aim;
My offerings all be offered through
His ever blessed name.
When things aren’t going your way, are you tempted to make sure things don’t go well for others too? Do you spend precious time and energy complaining about your situation and tearing down other people? If so, that might be the very thing that’s keeping you down. Lincoln said, “Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.” Lincoln’s advice is simple. Focus on your problem, not someone else’s problem, and climb out of it. The more time you spend thinking about the other guy, the less time you have to figure out how to solve your own problems. If your house has been destroyed, build it up. Don’t tear down your neighbor’s house.
