Week 41 Day 1

Pray Harder

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 3:2

Him eye to eye we there shall see,

Our face like his shall shine:

Oh, what a glorious company,

When saints and angels join!

President Lincoln would sometimes interview Union soldiers who had been held captive by the Confederacy but had escaped. Often these freed soldiers could give valuable information about rebel troop movements or new uses of weaponry. Once Lincoln learned that Confederate troops were often seen praying with each other. This was quite discouraging to the president. “The rebel soldiers are praying with a good deal more earnestness than our own troops,” he complained, “and expecting God to favor their side.” Prayer was important to Abraham Lincoln, and when his side was being “out-prayed,” he was let down. Might God listen more to those who prayed harder? It certainly seems likely that God would answer those who asked before those who didn’t. What about you? Are you being “out-prayed”?
