Week 41 Day 2
Stand Watch
We know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 Corinthians 5:1
There is a home for weary souls,
By sin and sorrow driven;
When toss’d on life’s tempestuous shoals,
Where storms arise, and ocean rolls,
’Tis found above—in heaven.
President Lincoln worked hard to secure freedom and justice for America. He spent many a late night poring over plans, tactics, and strategies. He traveled to the front lines, spent time with his generals, and wrote thousands of letters to garner support for the war effort. No man had worked harder. Yet the war dragged on. At times it seemed nothing was going right, that all might be lost. And when disgruntled friends and colleagues began to give in, Lincoln’s morale weakened. But instead of giving in, Lincoln did what he always did in times of trouble—he stood firm. Lincoln once told a friend, “The most we can do now is to watch events and be as well prepared as possible for any turn things may take.” He didn’t quit. He continued to prepare, and he watched for things to turn his way. You can do the same as Lincoln. When you’re at your wits’ end, just keep on going, and watch for an opportunity.
