Week 41 Day 3

Inspire Confidence

Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

1 Corinthians 13:12

As through a glass I dimly see

The wonders of thy love;

How little do I know of thee,

Or of the joys above!

’Tis but in part I know thy will—

I bless thee for the sight—

When will thy love the rest reveal

In glory’s clearer light?

What’s the best way to inspire confidence? How do you get others to follow you? In order to lead the Union to victory during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln had to inspire the confidence of the people. If they wouldn’t follow his lead, he couldn’t show the way. So he traveled through the Union asking for support. Often when he’d meet with crowds of citizens, he’d point to the American flag, sometimes holding it in his hands. “Standing as I do, with my hand upon this staff, and under the folds of the American flag, I ask you to stand by me as long as I stand by it,” he’d implore. Crowds would cheer and applaud and leave the meeting inspired. What did Lincoln do to inspire confidence? He gave the people a cause—freedom, justice, and liberty. If you want to inspire those around you, do the same—give them a cause.
