Week 42 Day 3
Be Relentless
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:4
Blessed are the sons of God;
They are brought with Christ’s own blood;
They produce the fruits of grace
In the works of righteousness:
Born of God, they hate all sin;
God’s pure word remains within.
Judge Lyle Dickey told a story about Abraham Lincoln’s persistence. When the Kansas-Nebraska Anti-Slavery Bill was announced, he was with Lincoln attending court. One day several persons, including himself and Lincoln, were discussing the slavery question. Judge Dickey contended that slavery was an institution the Constitution recognized. Lincoln argued that ultimately slavery must become extinct. “After a while,” said Judge Dickey, “everyone went to bed.” I remember that Lincoln sat up in his night shirt on the edge of the bed arguing the point with me. Early in the morning I woke up, and there was Lincoln half sitting up in bed. “Dickey,” said he, “I tell you this nation cannot exist half slave and half free.” Lincoln just wouldn’t give up. It’s that kind of relentless persistence that helped Lincoln win the White House.
