Week 43 Day 5
Be Flexible
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Colossians 3:4
If my immortal Saviour lives,
Then my eternal life is sure;
His word a firm foundation gives,
Here let me build, and rest secure.
Here, O my soul, thy trust repose;
If Jesus is for ever mine,
Not death itself, that last of foes,
Shall break a union so divine.
Abraham Lincoln was a model of consistency. He always held fast to his views. One almost always knew where he or she stood with Lincoln. At the same time, Lincoln wasn’t so stubborn that he wouldn’t change his mind. He’d readily admit a mistake and alter a policy while still standing on firm ground. He also was on the lookout for better ways to do things. He said, “I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they appear to be true views,” he once wrote to Horace Greeley. Have you made up your mind, or are you willing to be flexible? While certain values and principles don’t change, plans and strategies may. Be like Lincoln and be prepared to invite change.
