Week 46 Day 1

Faith in God Is Essential

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

Hebrews 2:14

Dry up your tears, ye saints, and tell

How high your great Deliverer reigns;

Sing, how he spoiled the host of hell,

And led the tyrant Death in chains.

Where is your faith? Everyone has a measure of faith. You have to have faith in something, even to just get up in the morning and go out the front door. Some people put all their trust in themselves. Others rely on a loved one or a friend. Still others place their confidence in institutions. Abraham Lincoln placed his faith in God. “Faith in God is indispensable to successful statesmanship,” he insisted. Why was faith in God important to Lincoln? Perhaps for two reasons Lincoln stood steadfast in his faith in God. First, he was desperate. The hugeness of his task humbled him to the point he had no choice but to turn to God. Second, his knowledge of Scripture surely caused him to turn to God when he needed the faith to endure. If you need faith to achieve, try putting your trust where Lincoln put his. Believe in God.
